Brest Considered Chelsea’s Gabriel Slonina Before Turning to Maxime Dupé

    By PLN5 days ago
    Gabriel Slonina

Stade Brestois were reportedly tracking Gabriel Slonina before shifting their attention to Maxime Dupé, as the club continues its search for a new goalkeeper following Marco Bizot’s departure.

This is according to insider Mohamed Toubache-Ter.

The Breton side opted to part ways with the experienced Dutchman Marco Bizot (34), allowing him to leave a year before the end of his contract as a gesture of appreciation for his contributions.

Bizot has since joined Aston Villa, where he is expected to provide backup for Emiliano Martinez.

Slonina Interest Fades as Brest Prioritize Experience

Brest initially explored the possibility of signing Gabriel Slonina, Chelsea’s 21-year-old American prospect. Slonina spent the first half of last season on loan at Barnsley FC before being recalled by Chelsea, where he was part of the squad during the FIFA Club World Cup, though he didn’t feature in any matches.

Despite Slonina’s promise, Brest appear to have prioritized experience, and have now focused their efforts on landing Maxime Dupé (32) from OGC Nice.

Dupé, who served as backup to Marcin Bulka last season, could be set for a move after Nice signed Yehvann Diouf from Reims as Bulka’s successor.

Discussions Progressing Between Nice and Brest

Negotiations between Brest and Nice are said to be progressing well, with a deal for Dupé increasingly likely.

Should the transfer go through, Dupé would bring valuable Ligue 1 experience to a Brest side aiming to stabilize their defense ahead of the new season.
