Liverpool Push to Extend Ibrahima Konaté’s Contract Amid Real Madrid Interest

    By PLN1 week ago
    Ibrahima Konaté

Liverpool are reportedly committed to securing a long-term future for Ibrahima Konaté, as the club seeks to fend off mounting interest from Real Madrid, according to L’Équipe.

The 26-year-old French defender, whose current deal with the Reds runs until 2026, has become a central figure in Liverpool’s defensive plans. However, with less than a year left on his contract before entering its final stretch, talks are heating up.

Despite already presenting renewal offers to Konaté’s camp, Liverpool’s proposals have so far fallen short of expectations, the French outlet reports. In the meantime, Real Madrid are believed to be closely monitoring the situation, eyeing a potential free transfer similar to previous high-profile acquisitions.

Liverpool’s Response: Retain a Key Asset

Newly appointed sporting director Richard Hughes is fully aware of Konaté’s salary and contract demands, and is actively engaged in discussions to reach an agreement. Liverpool are determined not to lose a player of Konaté’s calibre — particularly to a direct European rival.

Konaté, formerly of RB Leipzig, has emerged as a key figure in Liverpool’s backline. His age, athleticism, and experience at the highest level make him a valuable asset the club is eager to retain well beyond 2026.

With Real Madrid circling and contract talks at a critical stage, Liverpool will need to move decisively to avoid the risk of losing a cornerstone of their defence on a free deal.
