Manchester City’s reported pursuit of FC Porto and Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa has been firmly ruled out, according to fresh regional reports.
Amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding Ederson’s future and growing interest from Galatasaray, City have been the subject of intense speculation regarding a potential big-money move to reinforce their goalkeeping ranks. However, despite earlier suggestions that Costa was among their top targets, club sources now insist there is no interest in signing the 25-year-old shot-stopper.
Diogo Costa had been viewed by many as an ideal successor to Ederson, boasting elite ball distribution, Champions League experience, and a strong international résumé. Yet insiders suggest the club’s actual priorities are more aligned with Burnley’s James Trafford—particularly if Ederson departs and Stefan Ortega is not elevated to the number one role.
The Manchester Evening News, citing both English and Portuguese sources, reports that City are not preparing any €60 million bid for Costa, contrary to earlier claims. Instead, attention has shifted toward internal solutions and more pragmatic acquisitions.
Stefan Ortega, who has impressed in limited appearances, remains a strong contender to take over if Ederson leaves. The German goalkeeper is reportedly eager for more regular playing time and may consider a move if not guaranteed a starting spot.
Marcus Bettinelli, City’s third-choice keeper, is expected to remain in a supporting role, with no plans to promote him higher in the pecking order.
For now, City appear to be closing the door on any high-profile goalkeeper signings, as the focus remains on resolving Ederson’s situation before making further decisions.
