Liverpool are closely monitoring Real Madrid forward Rodrygo as a potential replacement for Luis Diaz, should the Colombian winger depart Anfield this summer, according to L’Équipe.
While the Reds are nearing a €95 million deal for Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike, their summer transfer activity appears far from over. Despite publicly maintaining their intention to retain Diaz, mounting interest from Bayern Munich may force a reassessment.
The German champions are reportedly ready to go all out for Diaz, with Liverpool valuing the winger at approximately €80 million.
In the event of Diaz’s departure, new head coach Arne Slot is preparing for reinforcements in the attack. Rodrygo has emerged as a leading candidate. The 24-year-old Brazilian’s future at the Bernabéu remains uncertain following a difficult 2024/25 season in which he struggled to find consistent form and playing time.
The arrival of Xabi Alonso as Real Madrid’s new manager has further complicated Rodrygo’s position. The former midfielder notably excluded the Brazilian from his starting XI during the FIFA Club World Cup, signaling a potential shift in the pecking order—with Gonzalo Garcia and Arda Güler seemingly ahead of him.
Although Rodrygo still views Real Madrid as the ideal club to further his career, he is in search of regular first-team football to rebuild his form ahead of the 2026 World Cup. Madrid, for their part, are reportedly open to selling Rodrygo if they receive an offer exceeding €100 million.
Arsenal are also said to be keeping tabs on Rodrygo, who played a key role in Real Madrid’s 2023/24 UEFA Champions League and La Liga triumphs. However, Liverpool’s financial firepower and recent recruitment spree—having already secured Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez—could give them the edge in the race.
Additionally, Liverpool may consider offloading Darwin Núñez amid interest from Saudi Pro League clubs, potentially creating the financial space needed to fund a move for Rodrygo.
