Tottenham Hotspur are lining up a surprise swoop for Manchester City winger Savinho, with new boss Thomas Frank keen to bolster his attacking options ahead of the new season.
The North London club have funds to spend following the high-profile sale of captain Son Heung-min to Los Angeles FC, and part of that budget could be directed towards prising the Brazilian talent away from the Etihad.
Savinho’s Future in Doubt After Busy City Window
Savinho, 21, only joined City last summer but could find himself squeezed out after Pep Guardiola’s latest recruitment drive. The winger netted once in the Premier League last season from 29 appearances — eight of them as a substitute — and also scored against Club Brugge in the Champions League and Juventus in the Club World Cup group stage.
City’s signings of Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders, plus the return of Rodri, could push Savinho further down the pecking order. Even Jack Grealish is reportedly facing uncertainty over his role, with speculation over a potential exit for the £100m star.
Spurs Ready to Pounce
According to European reports, Tottenham are monitoring the situation closely and believe they can tempt Savinho to North London. The winger is said to be open to the move, which would add extra depth to Spurs’ frontline following James Maddison’s ACL injury.
Frank has already overseen a £55 million deal for Mohammed Kudus from West Ham, as well as securing Mathys Telpermanently from Bayern Munich after a successful loan. However, with Maddison sidelined for much of the season, another creative option remains high on the agenda.
Guardiola’s Praise Still Fresh
Savinho was once hailed as “unbelievable” by Guardiola after making a decisive impact in City’s must-win Champions League clash with Brugge last season.
“He changed the game and after five or ten minutes had won two or three corners. Our crowd reacted and we had the chances,” Guardiola said at the time.
Spurs’ Summer So Far
Tottenham’s transfer window has already seen Kevin Danso sign permanently, along with promising youngsters Kota Takai and Luka Vuskovic. Joao Palhinha has arrived on loan from Bayern, while Son’s departure remains the most significant outgoing.
Spurs begin their Premier League campaign on Saturday at home to newly promoted Burnley. Their return to the Champions League comes after lifting the Europa League trophy in May, and Frank is determined to ensure his squad is deep enough to compete on multiple fronts.
